William Crake died on 1st April, 1915, after having been sent to a base hospital on the coast, but It is not known if he died from wounds or from illness, both of which took their toll of the men on the Western Front. The 1st Royal Berkshire battalion was part of 6 Brigade, 2nd Division, that had been in France since the beginning of the war and had been holding the line near Givenchy during the opening months of 1915. |
